A mobile phone known as a cellular phone is a device that can make and receive telephone calls over around a wide geographic area. It does so by connecting to a cellular network. The first hand - held mobile phone was demonstrated by Dr.Martin Cooper of Motorola in 1973.It provides the services such as text messaging, MMS, e-mail, Internet access etc.

Mobile phones are used for a variety of purposes, including keeping in touch with family members, conducting business, and having access to a telephone in the event of an emergency. Those days people travelled from village to let friends and relatives known about weddings, births and other events. But at present they can carry it easily where ever they go. As the mobile phone coverage is greater than land line penetration, most people own a mobile phone. In the smaller villages without electricity, phones are recharged using a solar panel or motorcycle battery.

Among the above mentioned advantages that are some disadvantages too. In today's Society many school children are addicted to mobile phones. Some times they use them for unnecessary purposes. So they miss their school work and use the phone to experience bad things which are not suitable to a school child. Another problem of using a mobile phone in negative health. The researchers have found that the high use of mobile phones caused brain cancers and others sicknesses.

However we can find two different sides of using a mobile phones.
A mobile phone has now become a friend of human beings.

Kandy Esala Perahera

  Kandy Esala Perahera   The Esala Perahera in Kandy is one of the oldest and grandest of all Buddhist festivals in Sri Lanka, featuring dancers, jugglers, musicians, fire-breathers, and lavishly decorated elephants. This is held in Esala (July or August) which is the month that is believed to commemorate the first teaching given by the Buddha after he attained enlightenment. The Kandy Esala Perahera lasts for ten days while various festivities can be witnessed right throughout.
